A funny thing happens when I tell people we’ve taken a vacation to Georgia, especially since my wife Jean and I love to stay in a cabin when we go on vacation. Sometimes we get quizzical looks from people, as if they wonder why on Earth we’d want to spend our vacation in, of all places, Georgia.

They do this because they don’t know how beautiful the northern part of Georgia in the Blue Ridge Mountains can be. And if you didn’t know, the town of Blue Ridge itself is one of those quaint little mountain towns that you can’t help but fall in love with. Blue Ridge is a small town for sure with just over 1,000 people that actually live within the city limits, but I wouldn’t be surprised if more people than that visit and stay in cabins around the area every single day of the year.

There’s plenty to do in Blue Ridge even though there aren’t many people who live here. The shopping is fun and gives you a warm hometown feeling just strolling through the downtown area of coffee shops, craft stores, antique stores and other quaint little shops. And if you’d like a little adventure then take a ride on the exciting Blue Ridge Scenic Railway and spend the afternoon riding through the surrounding countryside and into the next towns of McCaysville, GA and Copperhill, TN.

For more fun you can also visit the Blue Ridge Community Theater and take in a play or check out a movie at the Swan Drive-in, one of only 4 drive-in theaters left in Georgia. You can also enjoy the historic train depot, the Fannin County Courthouse that houses the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association and several other places of interest featuring more of the history of Northern Georgia and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

And if you’re planning on staying for a few days you can really enjoy your vacation by spending it in a Blue Ridge cabin rental. There are hundreds of cabins surrounding Blue Ridge and the towns around this area such as Mineral Bluff, Ellijay, Blairsville, Hiawassee and others. Cabins range in size from 1 bedroom cabins perfect for honeymoons or for the couple just wanting to get away, all the way up to large 4 and 5 bedroom cabins for large families or family reunions.

Plan your Blue Ridge GA vacation now and enjoy everything north Georgia has to offer.
